I’m a small scrape away from fifty, but today I learned a surprising amount of new stuff about my body – my boobs, to be specific.
I went to a free bra-fitting session at Clerys in Dublin with ‘Stylist to the Stars’ Maureen O’Halloran. I squeezed in the visit between lunch and gym; and had written it off in advance as a fluffy, fashion thing – but it turned out to be a lot more than that.
I discovered that the bra I had been wearing was far too lose around the rib-cage but far too small in the cup. I also learned that squeezing my breasts into those small cups can be damaging to the tissue around my lymph glands and restricting drainage of toxins through the lymphatic system. Although I didn’t learn all the science today, I learned enough to go off and do some research.
I also discovered that a good bra can really have a dramatic affect on your shape.
I’ve got big boobs. I don’t really like them. They get in the way when I’m doing my yoga poses, they also make buoyancy jackets uncomfortable and they hurt when I run. As a result I strap ’em down as much as possible and try to ignore them (difficult). The thought of actually supporting my breasts, lifting ’em, separating ’em, and thrusting them out there – is actually quite terrifying. But today they got the treatment and well, wowza.
I’m still not entirely comfortable about the transformation, but I’ve got to say, or announce, or maybe it should be a declaration: Today Maureen and Clerys created a ‘Weapon of Massive Destruction’…
