What a weekend! Adventure company “Total Experience” pulled out all the stops for our ‘mini-Tri-adventure’ on Sunday which was a warm up for the Concern Tri-adventure challenge in Uganda this November. Here I’m getting lessons on how to PROPERLY use a mountain bike. I quickly realised I didn’t have a clue about how the gears work on a bike, and braking was a bit of a mystery too. The bit of red tape on the right brake helped a lot!
We also had a go at kayaking in Blessington Lake, and here I am hiking with Zoe from Concern who is also travelling to Uganda.
On Saturday I was out kayaking with a gaggle of girlfriends on the Liffey with Adventure Training Ireland – at their City Kayak base at the Jeanie Johnston near the IFSC. The sun came out and it was absolutely fantastic to be doing adventurous things without having to wipe rain drops from the end of my nose!
Friday wasn’t officially a ‘training day for Uganda’ but it can’t have hurt. I joined a team from 98FM for a ‘Dip in the Dock’ at Grand Canal Quay – for HAVEN..
We had to dive in, swim to a buoy and then swim back and clamber back onto the pontoon outside Ocean Bar. It was meant to be 100m… but I’m sure someone moved the buoy…. A LOT!
The fun really all started on Thursday when I had my 4th lesson on the Liffey with the Wild Water Kayak Club – Andy was tightening the straps on the kayaks, and cracking up the tension in other ways too….we took on Lucan Weir and got our first taste of white water – very scary. I spent a sizeable amount of the lesson UNDER my kayak! Think I’ll need a bit more practice before Uganda.
