I’ve been learning a lot more about being healthy this week.
‘ChooseToTri’ is a newly found charity, set up to let people know that regular exercise is a vital part of health. They’re not about raising money, they’re simply about getting the message out there that we all need to make regular exercise a part of living, just like eating, breathing and moving.
They’re arranging special ‘ChooseToTri’ shorter-distance events… which are tagged onto existing sporting events. It helps ordinary people like me have a reason to keep focussed while learning to have fun getting healthy and fit.
It’s Fun With Benefits – and it’s out there waiting for you.
On Saturday, I swam, ran and cycled in my first triathlon – in Kilkenny. I was scared, felt totally out of my depth, and didn’t do the transition bits between very quickly. I didn’t do ANY of it very quickly…. but I did it, and I FINISHED. And afterwards, I felt fantastic. I’m half way through the week and the buzz is still there. It’s reminded me that my healthy eating has slipped a bit – despite my physical exercise and training going well. I want to try swimming in a river again. I want to cycle just a BIT faster than I did on Saturday… and I want to get out running a bit more.
I’m heading off to Uganda for Concern in November to climb a volcano, kayak in the Nile and cycle for hundreds of kilometres; so I’ve plenty of reasons to keep training. But ChooseToTri has given me a whole new source of motivation. I want you all to know how IMPORTANT it is to exercise – not just to fit in your jeans – but to prevent CANCER and keep healthy. Taking part in my first triathlon has made me realise something else. I may not be a 6″ Amazonian athlete and in fairness, I’ll never be the first swimmer or cyclist home…. but I can still be competitivie – I can race MYSELF.
I’m looking at those times from Saturday and I desperately want to have another go.
I guessed you could say I’m hooked…. do you fancy joining me? http://www.choosetotri.com/
